They're disgruntled tribals, not Naxals: KJ George - Bangalore - DNA

Home minister KJ George said “Naxals” and “Maoists” are incorrect labels that have been given to the tribals who are fighting to claim their rights.

After a three-hour closed-door review meeting with top police officials, deputy commissioners, ZP CEOs, and the additional home secretary, George announced “special measures” to deal with the issue of the tribals’ violence.

He said that right from the beginning, he was against the use of gun on misguided youth. He said that instead of employing coercive and oppressive methods, we should try to bring the disgruntled tribals to the mainstream with love and compassion. He said that being the home minister, he would like to create skill-development programmes for the youth in tribal areas and repackage the incentive to those who have shunned militancy.

George said the government would take Naxal sympathisers too into confidence and request them to use their influence on the tribals to give up arms.

Also, the minister announced that the Anti-Naxal Force would be rechristened as Anti-Terrorist Squad and would have its presence all across the state.
